The BIP Infrastructure and the Coastal Landscape. Summer School and Design Workshop in the Salerno area and Amalfi Coast is a Summer School coordinated by the University of Salerno (Italy), in partnership with the Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon (Portugal), University of Alcalà (Spain), Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Val de Seine (France), and Th Owl – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Germany). Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are actions supported by the Erasmus+ programme that involve the organisation of short, intensive courses using innovative learning and teaching methods, including short-term physical mobility abroad combined with a virtual component facilitating collaborative online learning exchange and teamwork. The BIP in Salerno is organized through some theoretical seminars and a Design Workshop on the theme of infrastructure and coastal landscape dealing with the relationship between tourism and landscape with case studies along the Amalfi Coast. The virtual component of the BIP comprises an introductory lecture preceding the in-presence activities and a final presentation of the work organised on the Microsoft Teams platform. The program involves almost 40-45 students from the 5 university partners. The BIP also involves architects from the professional world who will lead the students in the design work. Simulating a work as in a professional office, the tutor develops a design strategy leading a group of students who will work through models, videos and drawings. The activities end with an exhibition and a final presentation of the results, leading toward a publication. The activities of the Bip are closely linked to the research initiatives carried out by the Architectural and Urban Composition group at the University of Salerno, as part of the project titled “Implementation of a Digital Twin of the Mediterranean Ecosystem” – acronym: MEDUSA (Mediterranean: Sustainable Use of the Environment), developed within the Italian Space Agency (ASI) project “Boostering Future in Space @ Matera Space Center Lab”, funded by the Complementary Fund to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) – Mission 1, Component 2 – “Digitalization, Innovation, and Competitiveness in the Production System,” Investment 4 “Satellite Technologies and Space Economy.” The Campania Region, the Municipality of Salerno, and the Professional Orders of Architects and Engineers of the Province of Salerno are also involved in the Summer School, hosting the Design Workshop and participating in the seminars and the exhibition.
