The scope of the design of the area of ​​the former church of S. Giuseppe is strongly linked to the context in which it is located. Its roots lie in the original urban form and proposes itself as an urban reform intervention and “cultural activator” together with the project interventions of San Giovanni and Teatro Garibaldi.

The idea of ​​memory is unequivocally linked to an idea, which is, a material object; an image, a speech, an event. What is the reproduction of this consist in a “memory” based on new visions and contemporary techniques? Intervention on the faction enhances the memory of those who have passed through the establishment. That which is lost (a flight has been lost) and this flight is repurposed in fact as a “creator” of memory. The operation of subtraction (assenza) reveals mnemonic mimesis of the past, the presence of the baroque portal and the echeggian pillar in the present vision but the non-“material” testifies to the brutality of the past event.

Metaphorically, from the 2 maceration is reborn, the thick wall incorporates in its womb the “memory” as a mixture of 3 sandstone, travertine stones, cornice and columnar structures. The optical perception of the building’s surface 4 unconsciously reveals a new archeology.
