The morphological chaos of the Murgia Materana creates inordinate traces which flow as torrents on this peculiar hilly topography, the Gravina, the mass subtracted from the stone become natural prosthesis of the project “lamione”, maternal womb, able to dialogue with the surrounding environment and recollect in its meanders the nudest shadows. The main idea was to create an available rich space. In a land deeply rooted in history through repeated experiences, excavation becomes the means to look into the bowels of the city as the direct testimony of a buried past. Through excavation, we relate to the history and communicate with the present, the water in the cistern becomes the pulsating heart of the entire urban park. The great wall, as an access diaphragm to the Tourist Centre-Parking, is a threshold and pause, a visual silence in the dialogue between the disfigured modern city and the initial historic one.
